Best-selling author VICTOR PRICE is under the gun to complete his latest novel while vacationing with his agent/lover GAIL MARTIN on the coast of North Carolina. His creativity wanes the more Gail bullies him to get it finished. His anxiety increases when he learns her ex-boss, his old rival SCOTT ROSEN, is vacationing nearby and is trying to seduce her to return to his agency.

Victor is stunned to see SOPHIA ALVAREZ, his former lover and muse, at a party thrown by Scott. She has been brought onto the scene through Scott’s connivance to tear apart Victor and Gail. Now, torn by his reawakened need for Sophia’s emotional support and his desire for Gail’s career connections, Victor is plagued by nightmares. He begins to drink heavily. His loathing for Scott mounts the more he fears Gail will return to the Rosen Agency. The last thing he wants is to be under Scott’s thumb again.  Victor slips further and further into a world of paranoia. It drives him into repeated competition with Scott, resulting in deadly consequences.
